For more than 55 minutes on Saturday, ULM controlled the matchup against UAB, but a late 43‑yard Ryder Burton–to–EJ Reid touchdown lifted the Blazers to their first win of the season, 26–20.
UAB held the edge statistically across the board, most notably outgaining ULM 381–257 in total offense. Despite the loss, Head Coach Bryant Vincent said there were plenty of positives to build on.
“Really proud of this football team and their effort — their fight. I was proud of how they came out ready to play and start fast, a lot of what we talk about every week. I felt like we made a huge jump from last week to this week. We just need to put our head down and keep climbing. We’re going to put our head down and just keep getting better.”
Quarterback Austin Carlisle made his first collegiate start and led ULM to the end zone on each of the team’s first two possessions. After a defensive stand that forced a turnover on downs, CJ Phillip capped a 12‑play, 57‑yard opening drive to put the Warhawks on the board. Carlisle followed with a seven‑yard touchdown run on the next possession, giving ULM a 14–3 lead early in the second quarter.
With both teams leaning heavily on the ground game, possessions were limited and time of possession was nearly even in the first half.
ULM kicker Abram Murray continued his strong start to the season, connecting on field goals from 32 and 24 yards. Former Warhawk running back Braylon McReynolds reminded fans of his trademark quickness, breaking loose for a 27‑yard touchdown and finishing with 80 rushing yards.
On defense, former Blazer Carl Fauntroy snagged his second career interception, picking off Burton late in the second quarter.
ULM now returns to FMOL Health | St. Francis Stadium for its home opener against in‑state foe Southeastern Louisiana. Kickoff on ESPN+ is set for 3:30.
